Padre Island National Seashore

The rain cleared out last night and now we have a day like I had envisioned winter in South Texas to be.  We took advantage of this fine weather to drive over to Padre Island.  We went by ferry by way of Mustang Island.  That was the easiest for us rather than driving into Corpus Christi.  Besides, the ferry is much more exciting than I-37.

Visitor Center

We got to the Visitor Center at Padre Island National Seashore just in time for the Ranger-led walk along the beach.  Depending on the ranger, some of the ranger-led activities are better than others.  Today, Suzy was outstanding.  She had the names of nearly every broken shell and its life story.  One of the highlights of this area is the sea turtles.  They’ll be here in April, but we just can’t wait around for them.  Maybe some other time.
View from the Visitor Center

After the beach walk, we had our picnic at the Visitor Center and then drove to the end of the road to the campground on the beach.  The beach is open to vehicles for nearly the entire 80 miles, however, we are not comfortable driving in the sand so we stopped, took a quick look around and got ourselves back on the pavement.
Our little group for the beach walk.

I’m going to let the captions on the pictures tell the rest of the story.
