We arrived this afternoon at the park where we will be staying for the next 3 weeks—Tropic Winds RV Resort in Harlingen. From here we will be exploring the length and breadth of the Rio Grande Valley. We started out this morning in Aransas Pass with a light frost on the windshield and this afternoon there are several in the campground pool. Whoa, what a difference a few hours makes.
We motored south on US 77 with very light traffic and little difficulty. Although a 4-lane highway, it is not an interstate and lacks the convenience of regular rest areas. There was one rest area (somewhat less then optimal with limited parking), but we found a Truck Stop which suited our needs just fine. We made one wrong turn, resulting in us going about 10 miles out of the way, but no other problems getting here. Backing into our site continues to be a challenge. Practice, practice, practice; we need more practice.
The park is very nice with wide, grassy sites, and concrete patios. There are many, many planned activities, so even if you chose not to leave the park, there is no reason to be bored. On thing we noticed right away—several folks have their awnings out. We were not able to put our awning out in Livingston because there was a tree in the way. At Ransom Road it was too windy. I’m looking forward to sitting outside some here.
We’ve met several of our neighbors already and everyone seems very friendly. This is going to be a good spot from which to explore the area.
