More Fulltime RVing Friends

We got a lazy, slow start this morning and the only thing we really accomplished before lunch was a trip to the grocery and Gene phoned in our registration for the Rally in Albuquerque.  This afternoon, he did a few RV maintenance things on the outside and I got my Rio Grande Valley photos organized and copied to a CD.

The Wandering Wishnies

Later we went over to meet another couple whom we have been following along on their adventures through their travel journal—Wandering Wishnies.  Fred and Jo have been full-timing since the spring of 2006.  It was great to finally meet them in person.  We swapped driving stories, got recommendations for campgrounds and great places to visit, and discussed the disadvantages of RV factory sofas.  We talked until it got too cool and dark outside then we moved inside their rig and continued our discussion over a bowl of fabulous bean soup.  Hopefully, our schedules will allow us to get together again before they leave this park at the end of the week.

Although we are parked in a campground with approximately 350 other RVers, full-time RVers are a rare breed in the general population.  Before we embraced this lifestyle, we had a few friends who could identify with how we were thinking and some who even aspired to the lifestyle themselves.  But the vast majority of friends, family, co-workers, and acquaintances could not imagine what we were thinking and, I dare say, some probably even thought we had completely lost our minds.  Certainly, full-time RVing is not for everyone.  But there are a few of us “nuts” out here who have the wanderlust and who would rather trade their homes in the suburbs for a 350 sq ft box on wheels and travel the highways and back roads of this great land.

But everyone longs for the company and camaraderie of folks who enjoy the same things.  That is true of us. One of the great blessings of this lifestyle is meeting and making friends with people from all over the world who love exploring this vast and wonderful creation and learning about the cultures that make this country great.  So it was great to once again meet a couple who are on a similar quest as us.  We look forward to seeing Fred and Jo often, along with the others we have met recently, as our travel paths cross.
