Out With the Girls

Gene and I went our separate ways yesterday.  Not to worry, it was only for the day.  I’ll tell his story first.

Sunday, after the coldest night we’ve had during this cold spell, the truck wouldn’t start.  The truck is 4 years old and we’ve never had any trouble with it.  Gene has always been diligent with the routine maintenance schedule and it was last in for service in December.  At that time, since it was 4 years old, he had the service tech check the batteries and they were pronounced in good condition.  In fact, he was told that these type batteries might last for 7 years.  That was very good news. You can imagine his surprise when the truck wouldn’t start on Sunday.  Wendle, our neighbor here who arrived on the same day we did, was kind enough to lend Gene his battery charger.  The truck started Monday morning and Gene went off to the Ford dealer for new batteries.  By the way, “Batteries” is the correct term; there are two.    As it turned out, the batteries were fine.  What he got to buy was a new alternator which was twice as expensive as the batteries would have been.

I got out with the girls yesterday.  We certainly didn’t go anywhere exotic or even out of the ordinary, but we had a great time.  We spent some time at Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Wal-Mart, and we had lunch as Cracker Barrel.  Mostly we laughed and enjoyed being together.  After a day of shopping, I came home with one ball of yarn, fresh asparagus, green onions, and a loaf of French bread.  My greatest treasure of the day was two new friends.

The weather is finally warming up and we are sitting around this morning trying to decided what we will do during the last 3 days we have here.  The only thing definitely on the agenda for today is the regular Tuesday evening dinner at the clubhouse.  We always look forward to that.
