Model of a landing on a farm in NM |
I think I forgot to mention anything about our campground in Carlsbad. We stayed at White’s City RV park which was part of a motel, souvenir shop, and museum. The best thing that can be said for this place is its location. It was right at the entrance to Carlsbad Caverns National Park, not 20 miles away like the other campgrounds in the area. It was also relatively close (about 30-35 miles) to Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Guadalupe had a campground, but for RVs it was literally the parking lot at the trail head to Guadalupe Peak. It was angle parking long enough for big rigs and wide enough for slides. No hook-ups, of course.
At White’s City, the campground was a graveled area with pull-thru sites, all with 50 amp service. Rigs requiring 30 amp either had to have an adaptor or use an adjacent parking area with all back-in sites. Gene went in the restroom which he reports as “adequately clean”; I used the laundry which was adequate with 4 washers and dryers, but it was very dusty. Someone had propped the door open, I assume to allow a breeze, but the wind just blew a lot of the surrounding desert onto every surface in the laundry room. To be fair, we did notice improvements being made to the campground.

We will continue our journey northward tomorrow to Santa Fe.
