A Chore Day

There comes a time in every week when laundry has to be done.  The time was today and since we have been on the go for several days, we decided to stay home and get all the chores done.

The temperatures have been cool for the past couple weeks and we have been leaving the windows open to take advantage of the cool breeze.  Over time, that breeze has brought a lot of New Mexico into our little home.  With Gene’s help, I got the dust up today or at least made a good start.  He dusted every hard surface, including the walls.  I got everything else with the vacuum—window treatments, upholstery, carpet, and lamp shades.  I also washed the windows inside just so they wouldn’t feel left out.  With all this cleaning plus laundry and ironing, we’re pretty tired puppies.  As a reward, Gene has gone to get himself some ice cream at DQ and I am happy with a tall glass of iced tea.

This seems like a good time to make a few comments about the campground we are in this week.  Cottonwood RV Park is located on US 285 about 20 miles north of Santa Fe.  We chose a campground north of Santa Fe in order to be a little closer to Taos which we also want to visit.  Cottonwood is in the community of Espanola which has a Lowe’s and Walmart Supercenter.  The location is good, but the campground is not so good.  With the exception of about 4 back-in sites it is all pull-thrus and all with 50 amp electric service.  That is all the good I can say.  The two interior roads and parking pads are rough and uneven dirt.  This is a linier park with one road coming in down one side and one road going out on the other side with a single row of campsites between these two roads.  The worst part is that the park is built on 3 levels with pretty step inclines to reach each level.  I’ve never seen anything like it.

The laundry and bath house are located at the top level.  The bath and shower were clean but the laundry was very, very dusty.  Of course, the wind has been blowing here for a couple days and with the laundry door open, that dust blows right in there just like it does into my home.  The washers and dryers were fairly new and extra large capacity.  They were only a $1.25 per load which is reasonable.

This is a Passport America park and we got a weekly rate which has worked out to about $22/day.  We are happy with that, but it seems a little high for what we have.

Gene is working on a plan for tomorrow.  We will be hiking somewhere.  That will be a nice change from city tourism and a chance to breathe some fresh air and stretch our legs.
