After yesterday’s excursion to Mobile, we were in the mood to stay close to home today. Gene donned several layers of shirts, rain jacket, hat and gloves and went outside to scrub a little more on the Montana. By the end of the day he had cleaned a portion of the roof, the awnings, washed and waxed the kitchen slide, and changed the anode rod in the hot water tank. For a complete description and “how to”, along with pictures of this exciting chore, see the entry in Spring, 2008 entitled, On Water Heater Maintenance, posted March 22, 2008. I think he is getting the hang of it; at least there were no problems today.
I took the opportunity to spend a little time in the kitchen this morning just trying to get a ahead. I baked some chicken and made a nice pasta salad for lunch. I also had enough chicken to make chicken salad for sandwiches later in the week. It seemed like what I did most was wash dishes.
Just before lunch, we went out for our walk around the campground. This place is so large it takes us almost an hour to go up and down all the streets. Of course, we do stop to chat, if the opportunity presents itself. By doing that, we are learning a little more and a little more about Escapee parks in general and about Rainbow Plantation in particular.
After lunch, I heard my calling to the laundry room and Gene went back to his rubbing. By 3 o’clock we were both pretty much pooped and enjoyed just sitting until time to go to the clubhouse for social hour. We met some new people—Darrell and Judy and Don and Gloria as well as having a few minutes to visit with Norm and Linda. It is great to get to know people who are RVers, who can relate to our lifestyle, and who aspire to the same type travel dreams as we. We are anxious to spend a little more time with these folks this week and hope to see them again in our travels.
We have all assumed our positions now—Gene in the recliner, Peanut asleep on one end of the sofa and me and my computer on the other end. I think we are settled in for the night. Tomorrow we plan to return to Gulf State Park—this time for a walk along the beach.
