New and Improved Hendersonville

This turned out to be a pretty good day.  I had my doubts this morning when I just couldn’t seem to get myself organized.  It was one of those days when everything I tried to do got interrupted and I felt like I was going in circles.

Gene was on the phone much of the morning letting co-workers know of his retirement.  Having been with the company for almost 30 years, he has long standing friendships with several.  Leaving a job after so many years is somewhat bitter-sweet.  The day-to-day interaction with long time friends will be missed.

This retirement thing has generated quite a lot of work.  Since we were using Gene’s office as our mailing address, we have had to do all the mail forwarding and change of address stuff.  To reduce the amount of mail we received, Gene has signed up for electronic service for every company that offers such a plan.  We have WiFi on our computers, but it is not available at all campgrounds so we went this afternoon to purchase an air card.  The one we have been using will be returned to the office along with the blackberry.  I think Gene will miss that little piece of electronic equipment more than anything else.  We still have to go downtown and clean out the office, but that can wait until next week, I hope.

After purchasing the air card, we drove out to Hendersonville.  This is really a suburb of Nashville, although it is in the next county and not considered Metro Nashville.  Gene lived in that community most of his adult life and was interested in seeing the changes that have been in the making for the past couple years.  There are several new businesses and restaurants on what was farm land.  One of these new establishments was a Barnes and Noble Bookstore.  Just so happened, we were ready for afternoon coffee so Gene got a couple magazines and I found a cookbook to browse through while we sipped fresh brewed java.  We haven’t done that in a while and it made for a very enjoyable afternoon.  I had a few things on a grocery list which we picked up before going to Demos for dinner.

Not a very exciting day by most standards, but very relaxing and enjoyable nonetheless.
